Choosing the right venue for a wedding is not an easy task, especially when you are working to a tight budget.

These are some of the principal features of a venue suitable for a wedding, consider them if you want to look for the Wedding venue yourself.Location of the venue will be largely dictated by its proximity to where the ceremony is held. If you are not looking for a location that can cater for both the ceremony and reception, then the venue should be within a reasonable distance from air port, train and bus station. If you are planning a ceremony of some kind at the chosen venue then the venue should be able to cater for it and be allowed under their licensing rules to have such a ceremony performed on their premises.
The venue should have rooms for drink reception, dinner and dancing. In other words be able to accommodate the number of guests in these three locations without splitting the party. Some venues offer dining and dancing in the same room and then ask to leave the room after dinner while they take even an hour to turn the room around. If this is the case the venue should provide the option for the break. Also the dance floor should be big enough to accommodate the guests.The disabled access, air conditioning, proper lighting and audiovisual equipment are the basic facilities of the wedding venue.
There should be a room provided for the bride and groom to use during the reception to change clothes or just freshen Parking usually free of charge should be available for all wedding guests.
The venue should provide some décor of the facility or allow decorating the reception room according to bride’s and groom’s idea.
There should not be any remodelling or construction work going in the venue shortly before the wedding date as for many reasons it can be delayed and still going on during reception. security service to stop gatecrashers and the crèche for the children should be available.
There should be accommodation at the special wedding rate available for all the guests who stay over, some of the venues offer only a certain number of bedrooms at the discounted rate while the rest must be booked at the normal price which especially during the high season can be very high.
Catering
If the venue is a hotel or restaurant and they will provide the food and drinks for your wedding then a good venue will offer a tasting to try the menu and make any adjustments prior to the day.
There should be some “wedding packages” available in the offer including food, flowers, wedding cake and some other services. Although, some of the choices can be limited, but it can save time and money.
They should provide the alcohol and bar service with no restrictions regarding the type of quantity and it should be a choice between cash or open bar option. There should be an option to bring own wine or champagne to the venue at competitive corkage price.
The good venue should provide adequate staffing for the day; it should be a minimum of one food service waiter per max 25 guests and a wine waiter per 2 or 3 tables.
Timing, Licensing
The wedding venue should be able to offer sufficient time for both, the ceremony and the reception without extra charge. Also the room should be available some time before for decorating or band/DJ to set up their equipment.
Ideally it could be a “one wedding a day” venue; it means that only one wedding is held at the venue.
The venue should hold all necessary licenses especially:
- Civil Wedding License
- Full liquor license
- Late night liquor license
The variety of wedding themes or bride’s fantasy may determine some different important features of a wedding venue.
